Honus Honus of MAN MAN to make an in-studio WRFL appearance
Honus Honus of Man Man will be making a stop by the WRFL studios on Thursday (tomorrow) during Dave Condra’s most excellent show The Belfry, 4-6 pm, before that evening’s show at Cosmic Charlie’s.
No word on exactly what time said appearance will take place, but Dave’s show is always worth a listen so just make sure you’re on it at 4 pm. If they can finagle a piano into the on-air room, he’ll be playing some solo piano tunes.
Lexingtonians and other central Kentuckians can pick it up at 88.1 fm on the dial; the rest of the world can stream it at wrfl.fm. In case you didn’t know, WRFL rules.
To win a pair of tickets to see MAN MAN tomorrow night, see entry below! Cheers!

Jefferson St. revitilazation featured in Herald Leader
There was a nice article on Kentucky.com this morning about the renaissance on Jefferson St. over the past year or so, including new businesses Cuppa (a specialty tea & coffee shop); The Grey Goose (casual/upscale bar with a huge patio, pizza & bar food); Stella’s (which expanded its hours to include dinner in the past year); Wine + Market (which now offers BBQ cooked up by Johnny Shipley every Friday afternoon); Green Lantern (one of the best dive bars around); and other new businesses to open soon.
This revitalization has been rather quiet and seemingly completely organic, and all of these places seem to be doing really well so far. Be sure to stop in these businesses and show them some love if you are interested in seeing downtown and the surrounding areas become even more successful.
Check out the article here.
WRFL has lined up 2 final shows for the semester
WRFL has booked 2 great shows to close out a great school year of shows. Expect more where that came from next year!
TONIGHT – Wednesday, May 6 – Josephine Foster and Guilty Feelings at the Main Street Gumbo Ya Ya. Ms. Foster is a breathtaking singer-songwriter whose influences range from free-jazz to folk to opera to psychedelia to blues. Gulty Feelings is a new psych-folk group featuring members of Wretched Worst and ARA. Should be a spellbinding performance from both acts and it’s only 5 freakin’ dollars. 8:30 p.m., all ages, bring the kiddos.
Thursday, May 7 – Baby Dee at Niles Gallery in the Lucille Little Library on UK’s campus. This show should also be pretty spectacular. Baby Dee too draws from an eclectic group of influences, including chamber baroque and her experiences as a transvestite traveling with the circus. But her talent doesn’t draw from any sort of gimmick; it’s very pure and honest. Her shows have floored Lexington audiences in the past. Her last album was touted by Bonnie Prince Billy, who helped secure her a deal with Drag City. A rare acoustic set from Everyone Lives Everyone Wins (whose shows are usually loud as all hell) and a set by new folk duo Silverware (featuring WRFL’s own Ainsley Wagoner) will kick off the evening. Seating is very limited, get there early. $5, 8 p.m.
A partial list of shows that WRFL hosted during the 2009/2010 school year: Black Moth Super Rainbow, No Age, Mission of Burma, Lushlife, Faust, Atlas Sound, Os Mutantes, Black Angels, Disappears, Rachel Grimes, Kurt Vile, Psychedelic Horseshit, Tara Jane O’Neil, Mount Eerie, Peter Brontzmann, lots others……
